Championing and Supporting South Asian Communities in Australia.

SAFA was born from a simple truth that South Asian voices deserve to be heard, celebrated, and centred in the stories we tell about Australia. We created this foundation to break silence, honour legacy, and build a future where our communities don’t just belong, but lead.

Our Mission

The mission of the South Asian Foundation of Australia (SAFA) is to empower and uplift the South Asian community across Australia by fostering cultural pride, promoting equity, and creating opportunities for growth and connection.

Through inclusive, community-led programs, SAFA champions women, supports entrepreneurs, celebrates heritage, and addresses the unique social, economic, and wellbeing needs of South Asians, including the Indo-Fijian community, ensuring every individual feels seen, supported, and inspired to thrive.

Our Story

Growing up in Australia or migrating here can be challenging when your features immediately mark you as different, as a minority. For many South Asians, this visible difference often comes with assumptions, barriers, and a sense of exclusion. The South Asian Foundation of Australia (SAFA) was created to change that, to ensure that South Asians have the same opportunities, recognition, and sense of belonging as every other Australian.

Today, South Asians are the second largest and fastest growing community in the country. But we carry with us not only the hopes of migration, but also the weight of deep-rooted ancestral trauma, pain that is often invisible, yet ever present. At SAFA, we believe in healing that pain, creating space to grow, and building thriving, meaningful lives here in the land we now call home.

Australia was once called the land of opportunity. Through SAFA, we are reclaiming that promise, for our people, our futures, and the generations to come.
